The Stratford upon Avon office of Knight Frank officially moved into their new flagship office at Bridgeway just before Christmas. Having been at our Union Street offices for 22 years and having completely outgrown the space and layout, we moved to the new superb A1 building between the leisure centre and the hotel. This position gives us great prominence as people are entering the town and allows purchasers, vendors and clients to park at the office and not have to worry about how much time is left on their parking ticket!
To officially launch the new office, we had a party on 1 March, inviting 100 people, from various professions. We laid on canapés, champagne and a harpist to greet everybody on arrival. The sounds of the harpist was soon drowned out by the noise from all the attendees of the party chatting, meeting new and old acquaintances and the champagne and canapés were gratefully received by all.

The current position remains confused and this inhibits the ability of local authorities to act properly on behalf of their communities. Other related issues include the scope for elected local Ward councillors to act on behalf of their constituents and the ability of local licensing officers to initiate action.
Ministers have stated that “the Licensing Act gives powers to local communities to decide on closing times” but the procedures limit the number of residents who can express a view and the way in which their views can be expressed – at appeals for example. Meanwhile many residents are afraid of being charged with legal and other costs. Further clarification is needed if local communities are to play their full part as ministers wish. The process should make it as simple as possible for residents to make legitimate representations about licensing. The provision is in the Guidelines but not in the Act. The Trust considers that designation should be streamlined and a template supplied in the new guidelines.
